Auditions for 1940s USO Christmas Show

Step back into the 1940s as the Jonesborough Repertory Theatre’s radio station WJRT presents the annual 1940s USO Christmas Show.

Just as America entered World War II, radio airwaves served as a key source of entertainment and news for families on the home front, as well as entertainment for the troops at home and overseas. The WJRT radio station will broadcast many of your favorite WWII Christmas and patriotic songs such as “I’ll Be Home for Christmas,” “Danny Boy,” “Nice Work If You Can Get It,” “White Christmas,” “There’ll Be a Hot Time in the Town of Berlin,” and many more. The radio cast will also perform live radio skits as well as sing and dance as they honor military families with this memorable Christmas celebration of our freedom.

Auditions are Sunday and Monday, September 22-23, at 7:00 p.m. at the JRT located at 125.5 Main Street, Jonesborough.

Audition Preparation:

Please prepare a 1-minute solo. An accompanist will be available if needed. Have music in a binder and clearly marked. 1940s style music is encouraged. Actors will also do a cold reading from the script as well as dance to 40s style swing and tap. Bring shoes you can dance in.

Cast is ages 16 and up.

Performance dates are December 5-15.

The JRT’s USO Show is neither sponsored nor endorsed by the USO organization, and it is not a fundraiser for the USO.
