During Jonesborough Days, Saturday and July 3, the Jonesborough Repertory Theatre, located in the downtown historic district, invites audiences to a 1940s USO-style revue.
“JRT will take you on a ‘Sentimental Journey’ through the ’40s,” Theater Director Kathleen Buttolph said. “In the production, there are four different revues, all representational of the ’40s time period.”
Arranged and musically directed by Jennifer Schmidt, JRT has put together a showcase of various USO style songs from “Chattanooga Choo Choo” and “Grand ’Ol Flag” to “This is the Army, Mr. Jones,” “Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy” and much more.
“We’ll display everyday ’40s-style fashions, military clothing and island costumes for tunes from the musical South Pacific,” Buttolph said.
Cast members include Josh Baldwin, John Beard, Joe Borden, Chris Carlson, Frank Knisley, Maria Buchanan, Janette Gaines, Kim Lundin, Shelyne Ponder, Sharon Squibb and Michelle Tilley.
Accompanying are Barbara Knisley and Lucas Schmidt. Ann Hodge is the USO choreographer along with special guest dancers from The Dance Studio Company, choreographed by Kristy Pratt.
Performances are scheduled for Saturday at 11:30 a.m., 2:30, 4:30 and 6:30 p.m. July 3 performances will be at 1:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.
“Jonesborough Days 2005 will be an event that is affordable and a fun experience for all,” Buttolph said.
The performance is sponsored by Ponder’s Auto Repair.
