JRT Theatre Classes & Workshops
REGISTRATION on January 9 from 4 to
6:30 p.m.
Jonesborough Repertory Theatre is holding registration
for students of all ages - Kindergarten through Adult.
Registration will take
place on Monday, January 9, 2012 from 4 to 6:30 p.m.
To register early, please
submit your registration form online.
Classes will begin the week of January 16
– through the week of April 16, 2012.

The Jonesborough Repertory Theatre and the Mary B. Martin Program for
the Arts will be offering a variety of acting and dance classes for students
ranging from kindergarten age to Adult. Each class is designed to be a fun, interactive course for both beginning and advanced acting students. |
Classes offered include:
Acting I – Mondays, January
16 – April 16, 4:30 – 5:30 p.m.
Acting I will be offered for students presently in
Kindergarten through 3rd grade. Acting I students will
work on various avenues of theatre, using short monologues/scenes and
pantomime/improvisational games to develop scenes and “story-building” skills.
Students will work in small groups to enhance learning and understand what it’s
like to be a cast member/mentor/team player - an excellent opportunity to work
basic acting skills as well as enhancing the student’s ability to work well with
other actors. Students will learn beginner methods to break down
scripts/stories for character development. Students will also learn basic skills
in projection, staging, basic scene design, how to audition and work with props.
Students will be required to participate in class and prepare some scene work at
home. The class will culminate in a presentation of student work. Instructor:

Acting II – Mondays,
January 16 – April 16, 5:30 – 6:30 p.m.
Acting II will be offered to 4th-7th graders. Acting
II students will work on basic to advanced acting skills with improvisation,
monologues, and short scenes. The concepts of objective, obstacle, sense memory
and emotional recall will be introduced. Students will learn methods
to break down scripts/stories for character development. Students will also
enhance skills in projection, staging, basic scene design, how to audition and
work with props. This is an excellent opportunity to work on a strong monologue
for auditioning as well as building on the student’s ability to work well with
other actors. Students will be required to participate in class and prepare some
scene work at home. The class will culminate in a presentation of student work.
Instructor: Matt Brewer
Theatre Arts for the Young Professional
is open to 8th - 12th
graders. This class is offered for students interested in auditioning for
professional theatre, college scholarships, and for young actors that desire a
theatre acting intensive designed for each individual student. Monologue, scene
study, and audition preparation will incorporate improvisational theatre and
essential skill development for stage actors
- promoting confidence, self-awareness, expression, and empathy. The class
will culminate in a presentation of student work. Auditions are required for
this class. Instructor: Janna Browning
Movement and Dance for the Stage
– Tuesdays, January 17 – April 17, 5:15 – 6:15 p.m.
Movement and Dance for the Stage is designed for
students in sixth through twelfth grade. The class encompasses the art of
musical theatre, storytelling, and dance history. During these classes students
will work on the art of physical character development, specifics of movement
choices, and dance for theatre and musical theatre. Students will be required to
participate. The class will culminate in a
presentation of student work. Instructor: Everett Tarleton
Playwriting – Thursdays,
January 19 – April 19, 5:30 – 6:30 p.m.
The playwriting workshop will be offered for students
presently in the 8th grade through Adult. The class will take writers
through the entire process of creating a play - from learning the basics of the
dramatic form to composing, editing, polishing, and performing their own work.
Class participants will practice the principles of good playwriting through
collaboration, improvisation, experimentation, and workshopping. By the
end of the class, students will have created and revised a complete 15 to 30
minute script. The class will culminate in a presentation of student work.
