JRT Classes are fun, interactive courses for kindergarten thru 12th grade students that have just been introduced to theatre and are looking to grow as performers of the stage. Classes include various avenues of theatre from pantomime and improvisational games to developing listening and story-building skills – from theatre basics to auditioning at the professional level or for college and community theatres.

Classes are designed for students who want to explore the different aspects of play production. Classes will learn vocabulary, stage directions, and the layout of a typical theatre. Through the use of drama games and many other activities, students will actively study to improve skills in pantomime, stage voice/projection, movement, musical theatre, character development, improvisation, scene studies/design, playwriting, storytelling and auditioning. All the while, students will be improving their communication, listening skills, group cooperation, awareness, and confidence.

The Arts are a critical component of the educational and learning process. The JRT is committed to provide opportunities for Jonesborough area residents to improve their lives through their exposure, involvement in, and knowledge of the Arts. Studies show without a doubt that arts activities enhance academic achievement. Students participating in the Arts are:
Young people in the Arts have lower truancy rates and higher graduation rates. In a changing technological world, creative and analytical skills are at a premium. Exposure to the Arts enhances these skills and creates more educated young people who can also communicate more effectively.
