JONESBOROUGH REPERTORY THEATRE

Bruno Bettelheim, in his award-winning book, salutes the story of Scheherazade as one of the world's most effective fairy tales: "What greater testimony can we have to the power of fairy tales to change our personality than the ending of this one with hatred being changed into love."  It is exactly this that Lowell Swortzell dramatizes in his play which shows how Scheherazade not only saves her own life but also transforms the cruel Sultan into a compassionate and understanding human being.

Stage Hands uses both spoken English and American Sign Language to communicate dialogue while acting out each play.  Shows are performed using shadow interpreting.  But more than just interpreting, the interpreters interact with the characters in the show and become characters themselves.  All Stage Hands performances are communication accessible to both hearing and Deaf audience members.
